With the AirPlus Company Account, AirPlus offers a sustainable and climate-neutral payment solution worldwide. Further products will follow.

The corporate payment specialist AirPlus International is taking another important step on its way to becoming a sustainable company: The AirPlus Company Account, which has already been climate-neutral in some markets ("Green Company Account"), is now climate-neutral for all AirPlus markets worldwide. All CO2 emissions generated by AirPlus in the Company Accounts were offset for the past year by the international non-profit organization myclimate. This approach will be maintained in the future, so that the entire portfolio of AirPlus Company Accounts is completely climate neutral. This also includes the AirPlus Debit Account, the AirPlus Meeting Card and the AirPlus Travel Trade Account.

"We are delighted to be making a contribution to climate protection and enabling our customers to make the entire payment and billing process climate neutral," says Oliver Wagner, CEO of AirPlus International. "When it comes to the question of how travel can become more sustainable, the public's focus is usually on the trip itself. This is also where most emissions occur. But companies can also make their contribution to climate protection when it comes to payment and billing," Wagner continues.

High-quality compensation of non-avoidable emissions

AirPlus has long since largely dispensed with avoidable CO2 emissions, such as those caused by paper consumption, as everything from applications to billing is now handled paperlessly. This saves 16 million sheets of paper annually across all products. This corresponds to a stack of paper one and a half kilometer high. Unavoidable CO2 emissions such as electricity, gas and water generated by the AirPlus Company Account are offset via a myclimate carbon offset project. Last year, this amounted to 380.4 tons of CO2 equivalent, which were offset through a community reforestation project in Nicaragua. Around 1,600 trees were replanted in this way. The high-quality myclimate projects meet the highest standards (Gold Standard, Plan Vivo) and, in addition to reducing greenhouse gases, demonstrably make a positive local and regional contribution to sustainable development. The projects thus contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

AirPlus is a pioneer in sustainable payment solutions

Back in 2012, AirPlus was the first financial service provider to develop the "Green Company Account" as a completely CO2-neutral payment solution. For this pioneering role, AirPlus was then honored in 2015 with the myclimate Award at the world's largest travel trade fair ITB as a "pioneer for sustainable financial products in the travel industry." The product's carbon neutrality was initially available as an option and was introduced as standard in several markets. Now the product is climate-neutral worldwide and automatically for customers. In addition, further AirPlus payment solutions will gradually be made CO2-neutral. In addition, AirPlus offers customers optional Green Reports, a CO2 reporting system for a transparent and detailed evaluation of the emissions incurred on business-related air travel.
