Corporate Social Responsibility at AirPlus

How we fulfill our responsibility to society and the environment

The AirPlus balance sheet shows positive results in more than just the economic indicators. Our engagement in corporate responsibility and environmental protection also bears critical examination. Commitment to CSR is an integral part of our sustainable business operations. The “Sustainability Gold Medal” awarded by the GBTA Foundation to AirPlus for our sustainability program and social responsibility is proof of that.

For us, acting responsibly has many facets:

  • Social Responsibility

AirPlus appreciates that all employees are different with each having their own special requirements and responds to that in a number of ways. The company offers employees the opportunity to participate in various training courses as well as continued education, both on and off the job. Training options include apprenticeships, internships for students, master programs, AirPlus Academies, Go Internationals as well as the in-house personal and professional development program ‘GROW’.

In addition, AirPlus offers flexible work models such as sabbaticals, flexitime, and the program "Leadership is shared", designed to accommodate changes in employees’ personal and professional lives.

Balancing family and career is also an important social matter. AirPlus offers a specially equipped parent-child office, childcare, and other parent-friendly programs including regular company updates whilst on parental leave.

Globalization means international connections in all areas of life. As a result of increasing internationalization, almost one-third of the employees at AirPlus are non German citizens.

Providing maximum transparency and diverse opportunities for involvement are also key to motivating employees. To further increase identification with the company, AirPlus provides its employees with certain benefits. Lastly, AirPlus places great value on the health and well-being of its employees, offering ergonomic workstations as well as first aid and fitness courses.

  • Environmental Protection

AirPlus conserves resources and takes measures against global warming by means of innovative products and sustainable company standards. The carbon neutral AirPlus Company Account and its green reports helps promote environmentally-responsible business travel management.

AirPlus upholds eco-friendly behaviour by ensuring its suppliers adhere to certain standards right from the start of the request for proposals (RFP) process. Regardless of whether it is the use of hydroelectric facilities, the switching off of electronic devices at night, or the recycling of materials such as toner or ink cartridges. AirPlus is constantly working on reducing its use of resources in an efficient and sustainable manner. In all AirPlus offices there are separate bins for rubbish. To cut down on business travel, video conferencing systems are available. AirPlus also provides its employees with public transport tickets to encourage people to drive less.

  • Social Commitment

AirPlus supports social projects, mostly thanks to the personal commitment of its own employees. AirPlus also has a long and solid partnership with the German charity organisation “wünschdirwas (make a wish)”. Our very own employees have been actively involved in making wishes come true for terminally ill children.

Colleagues in the regional offices are also socially engaged in various fundraisers including organising care packages to Africa, participating in charity runs, and taking elderly people for a day out.
