The new AirPlus Virtual Cards offer great payment convenience, control, and transparency for optimum management of travel and B2B expenses.

Payment provider AirPlus International, which specializes in corporate payment, has launched its new AirPlus Virtual Cards for corporate clients and travel agencies. The product runs on a new, state-of-the-art platform that offers superior user friendliness, personalized services, improved data quality, and automated digital processes and features that are also continuously being refined and expanded.

Advanced payment with many possible adjustments

AirPlus Virtual Cards are the simple, secure way for customers to pay for travel services and other business expenses. A Mastercard credit card number is generated to do this. The number can be restricted to a specific merchant category, which offers great security and transparency. For example, users can use the credit card exclusively for plane tickets, hotel bookings, train tickets, or other purchases, as desired. This prevents misuse for other purposes. The customer can also adjust every virtual card further on an individual basis, including a card limit or validity period or limiting the card to a certain currency. The virtual credit card is quickly and easily generated directly on the AirPlus Portal and can be used right away. It can also be frozen with a single mouse click. An interface with widely used booking platforms allows customers to generate a virtual card directly when booking in the local system and use it for payment, saving time and effort.

The new AirPlus Portal offers an overview of all transactions in real time, along with the exact status of the cards issued. There is also a central statement of virtual card transactions. Because charges are settled centrally, the traveler does not need to pay in advance, and the company gets added transparency around its expenses by having a single consolidated statement. Additional information such as a cost center or project number can be included, making it easier for customers to allocate costs later on.

Products for different customer groups and needs

There are several versions to choose from: AirPlus Virtual Cards Classic, for corporate customers to pay for travel services; AirPlus Virtual Cards Procurement, which were launched last year, for B2B and ad-hoc purchases such as office supplies and software licenses; and AirPlus Virtual Cards Travel Agency, designed specifically for travel agencies and tour operators looking for a payment solution to handle their own travel-related payments. The first two feature a single-use function for one-time payments along with a multi-use function for recurring payments to the same merchant. AirPlus Virtual Cards are generated for a specific purpose and are viewed as highly secure thanks to factors such as the restriction to certain categories. Card numbers generated for one-time use are therefore exempt from the two-factor authentication requirements.

AirPlus reaches milestone in IT transformation

The new AirPlus Virtual Cards run on the company’s new IT platform. Oliver Wagner, Chairman of the Management Board at AirPlus, comments: “This marks another important milestone in the biggest transformation project in our company’s history. We’re really proud to have managed this, especially amid the pandemic. Through this transformation, AirPlus offers the most advanced IT platform in the industry, with a wealth of new functions and the ability to bring new features and innovations to market even faster.” All products are being shifted to this new IT architecture by stages. Over the past few months, AirPlus Corporate Cards already successfully made the move to the state-of-the-art systems. In its role as a specialist in corporate payment, AirPlus has been setting standards for more than 30 years now and is a leader in virtual credit cards, which the company first introduced back in 2005. The new AirPlus Virtual Cards, like the previous version, are currently available in 17 countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the U.S., the UK, France, Italy, and Australia.
